GDMS: An abstraction layer to enhance Spatial Data Infrastructures usability

چکیده
The practical exploitation of SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructures) raises number of issues as far as it grows. Among them is the heterogeneity of data sources and thus the difficulty for GIS users not to depend on the data source format and of course to learn different systems. This a major flaw with respect to reuse and data sharing. The purpose of our work is to propose a new semantic layer derived from the SQL language that is independent of the underlying data source. This layer, called GDMS (Generic Data source Management System) can first be seen as an abstraction layer between data sources and the SDI tools. We will also show how this layer extends both SQL and spatial semantics and improves the exploitation of the SDI, by providing feedback both in terms of work and data reuse. A simple example mixing heterogeneous data sources will be presented.

Pilot-Abstraction: A Valid Abstraction for Data-Intensive Applications on HPC, Hadoop and Cloud Infrastructures?
HPC environments have traditionally been designed to meet the compute demand of scientific applications and data has only been a second order concern. With science moving toward data-driven discoveries relying more and more on correlations in data to form scientific hypotheses, the limitations of existing HPC approaches become apparent: Architectural paradigms such as the separation of storage ...

ION LAYER FOR DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF CLOUD SERVICES Abstract In this paper, we will present an abstraction layer for cloud computing, which intends to simplify the manipulation with virtual machines in clouds for easy and controlled development and deployment of cloud services. It also ensures interoperability between different cloud infrastructures and allows developers to create cloud ...
متن کاملSpatial analysis of rural groundwater resources in order to identify critical zones (Case study: Mahidasht watershed in Kermanshah province, Iran)
Introduction According to the theoretical frameworks in the spatial analysis, every "structure" in space has a specific "function". To study phenomena and to identify the relationships between them, these two concepts are of particular importance, especially in the "structural-functional dynamism" approach. The basic premise of this approach is based on the existence of a link between the stru...
متن کاملSemantic Unified Access to Traffic Measurement Systems for Internet Monitoring Service
The increase of traffic in IP networks, leads operators to search for efficient tools to monitor it in order to support QoS. Several infrastructures to measure traffic and monitor routing have been deployed but SLA can not rely on them because of their lack of interoperability. MOMENT project is currently developing a mediator to access most of available traffic measurement systems. Thus a unif...
متن کاملSecurity Requirements Elaborations for Grid Data Management Systems
In this paper, we present a goal-oriented approach to design policies for managing security requirements of critical information infrastructures (CII). The approach, adapted from a standard and widely accepted requirements engineering methodology, is applied to the security analysis of a specific CII: Grid Data Management Systems (GDMS). Based on domain ontologies, combining concepts borrowed b...
